SAKAR (Skills And Knowledge for Adolescents' Rights)

Project Duration: 4 years ( 1st July 2011-31st March 2015)

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT Social and economic empowerment of adolescents in Rural Uttar Pradesh, India. The project is dedicated to working for poor rural families, building on their own skills and knowledge to develop sustainable solutions to poverty.
PROJECT LOCATION Rae Bareli, Allahabad, Pratapgarh and Fatehpur districts of Uttar Pradesh
FRAMEWORK The project is designed to be run through 7 separate cycles of 6 months each.  In each project cycle of 6 months – first 4 months are for informal education whereas the last 2 months are dedicated to Entrepreneurship and vocational Skill training.
BENEFICIARIES Direct: 2,100 adolescents – 1,400 girls and 700 boys who have dropped out of school.  They are from poor and marginalised communities in rural areas and are mainly from dalit communities.
Indirect: The direct beneficiaries' 11,340 family members, based on the average family size of 6.4 in Uttar Pradesh.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES/RESULTS Goal: To contribute towards the elimination of poverty and rights abuses in Uttar Pradesh (UP), India, and support MDGs 1, 2, 3 and 6.
Purpose: To promote the right to quality education and other services for marginalised dalit communities in rural UP through innovative provision of informal education, vocational training and influencing local & national service provision.
Institute of Entrepreneurship Development, U.P. (IEDUP), Lucknow has been involved in the project as the Resource Agency, for providing consultancy support in the Vocational Educational component in the SAKAR project. Vocational training courses provided by the IEDUP are determined by the interests and abilities of the students, subject to viability assessments. So far, we have imparted vocational training to about 1500 boys and girls, on 12 trades altogether i.e. stitching, fashion designing, beautician, snacks, fast-food/street food items, ready-food mixes, bag-making, mobile repairing, sweets-box making, two-wheeler repairing & servicing, electrical home appliances repairing, and motor-winding. Out of the trained bunch, more than 70% adolescents have started making a living through micro-business activities in their respective areas.

Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development (STED) Project

Sponsoring Agency: Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India The STED Project is a focused effort to bring about a socio-economic development of an area through the intervention of Science & Technology. It aims at inculcating strong entrepreneurial orientation in people that will result in effective utilization of resources, generating employment opportunities and generating wealth. It involves identification of opportunities through a detailed scientific survey and exploitation of the opportunities thus identified by the entrepreneurs.
OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
  • To identify feasible resource based projects in the region covering both rural and semi-urban areas.
  • To identify likely S&T interventions for exploiting the opportunities by prospective entrepreneurs
  • To improve working of existing enterprises through S&T intervention
  • To regularly organize enterprise awareness programmes and skill development programmes for creating suitable entrepreneurial environment in the target area.
  • To launch at least 200 micro-enterprise in the selected location during four years of operation of STEP project.
PROJECT LOCATION , and DURATION Bijnore  : 2011-12 to  2014-15; and Kanpur:  2013-14 to 2016-17
IMPLEMENTATION MECHANISM
  • Market Survey for identification of resources of the region which include Man, Market, material, Methods (Science), and Mechanics & Mechanism (Technology)
  • Preparation of opportunities profiles
  • Identification & Counseling of potential entrepreneurs
  • Training of entrepreneurs
  • Providing escort services to the potential entrepreneurs
  • Counseling the existing enterprise for technology upgradation and modernization
TARGET GROUP Unemployed youth who may or may not possess necessary skills to launch a micro-business unit but have the required desire and aptitude.
EXPECTED OUTCOME Through the STED projects, in each district, approx. 2000-2500 individuals will be trained for different enterprises and out of these, 15-20% will be able to establish their own business. Each enterprise would generate a monthly income of approx. Rs. 6000-8000, and further create employment for approximately 5-6 persons. Thus, would lead to employment generation of 1200-1400 individuals in the district.
Bharat Bhavishya (A project for inculcating entrepreneurship in among students) As entrepreneurial initiatives are based upon high level of creativity and focused actions, it is believed that the students pursuing technical and management courses have focus, creativity and managerial skills. With this belief and guidance of Honorable Minister of Industries UP, Sri Bhagwat Saran Gangwar, the Project Bharat Bhavishya has been launched by IEDUP, for the students of professional courses. Project Period: 2013-14 onwards
PROJECT  MISSION  To inculcate entrepreneurship among students of engineering, management and professional courses".

U.P. Skill Development Mission (UPSDM) Project

Sponsoring Agency: U.P. Skill Development Mission, Govt. of U.P. IEDUP has partnered with Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM), as GovernmentTraining Provider for carrying forward the skill development initiatives in 10 districts of Uttar Pradesh. It will provide multi-skill training to youth to enhance their employability.
OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
  • Providingemployment oriented and placement linked training in vocational skills to youth
  • Enhancing the access of youth to fair choices to acquire skills that are relevant to the employers, at a reasonable cost and within reasonable distance from their residence
  • Providing the trained youth the facility to obtain professional counselling in making good choices based upon their interest and aptitude and also employment potential of the skill
  • Facilitating in obtaining placement after acquiring certification.

Handicrafts Project

Sponsoring Agency: Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Govt. of India, Ministry of Textiles, New Delhi Under the Handicraft project, DC (Handicraft), Govt. of India has provided support to IEDUP for promotion of handicrafts in Uttar Pradesh. This support is under the Human Resource Development Scheme of this Ministry. The project focuses on training through establishing Institution, hence, Training & Common Facility Centre (CFC) has been established for imparting training to artisans.
OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT
  • Providing additional skills to the artisans involved in handicraft sector as well as upgradating their existing skills
  • Enhancing their access to information on latest development in the sector
  • Demonstration of specific handicraft and skills
  • Systematic efforts towards continuous development and progress of artisans' community
  • Providing a strong production base for gainful employment and completing the production cycle of international market.

INTERVENTIONS Long & Short term skill upgradation programmes, (Theoretical training; practical training & hands-on experience; demonstration and sharing as well as analyzing best practices), Seminars, Workshops, Exhibitions
STRATEGY
  • Four training programmes,  of 1 month duration,  every year each on Hand Embroidery, ZariZardoji and Hand Block printing (targeting 40 persons in each programme)
  • Two training programmes, of 4-1/2 months duration, every year on Hand embroidery and ZariZardoji (targeting 20 persons in each programme)
  • Exhibition and Craft Bazar for market development
EXPECTED OUTCOME
  • 160 artisans will be trained every year in 16 batches
  • Training other artisans, on different skills, in the handicraft sector
